Option 1: Public Bus (Available All Year)

Kathmandu → Panauti

  • Take a bus from Ratna Bus Park (in front of Bir Hospital).

  • Buses depart every 5 minutes.

  • Try to catch a bus before 1:00 PM.

Panauti → Dhunkharka

  • From Panauti Bus Park, take a bus to Dhunkharka.

  • Last bus: 5:00 PM

  • Travel time: 1.5 hours

  • Cost: Rs. 120

Dhunkharka → Mount Mahabharat Homestay

  • Get off at Dhunkharka Geldung Bazaar (Chardobato).

  • You will be met there, followed by a 45 min uphill walk.

  • If you have heavy luggage, inform the host in advance so they can arrange a motorbike to assist.

Option 2: Taxi (Best from October to June)

  • Taxi fare from Kathmandu to the homestay: Rs. 4000 – 4500 (one way).

Notes:

  • During the rainy season, taxis may stop early, requiring a 30–45 minute walk.

  • Many taxis do not drop guests at the correct location, so contact the host before finalizing a taxi.

Option 3: Private Vehicle Pickup / Mountain Jeep (Available Year-Round)

  • A private jeep can be arranged by the host for USD 60 (one way) from Kathmandu or the airport.

Option 4: Ride-Sharing Apps (Pathao or InDrive)

  • Download Pathao or InDrive on your phone.

  • Book a car, taxi, or motorcycle ride directly to the homestay.

  • Often a cheaper option.
